In the video below you will see distance measurement, where laser point is being
captured by 640 x 480 pixel, 15 fps web
camera. There are various sensors marketed for measuring distance
but cannot do more than that. Web cameras, on the other hand, can
offer many more applications in combination with the image processing
technology. By providing 4 reference targets in the view field,
laser's 3D positional information is not lost even when camera is moved.
If used with line laser, 3D space measurement is possible. No
special high-cost device is
necessary: commonly available cameras well work out.
